Make your system work for you

If you have a Home Security Systems, you probably just assume it will keep you safe, right? That's why you got it.

#1 Arm your system

Take some time to learn the ways to arm your system. Your system can be armed to Stay Mode, that arms only the perimeter and Away Mode that arms the perimeter and interior motion detectors. Both Away and Stay modes can be activated normally which permits a delay time for you to reach the panel and disarm upon entry or in the case of an accidental alarm activation, or with no delay that activates the siren the instant a sensor is tripped.  Check out this blog if you need instructions for any of those modes.

#2 Test Your System

Many people don't realize that you should be testing your system. It makes sense though. You installed a system so that you do not become a statistic. Testing your system is not only easy, if you are a family with kids, it's a very important process to help kids understand and know what to do if the alarm should sound. Simply call the monitoring station and let them know you would like to put your system "on test" for an hour, a half-hour, whatever time you want to practice using the system and check that sensors are working. This blog walks you through testing your system and having an evacuation plan.

Not just if you live in cities like Oakland or Stockton, many less infamous cities are fighting the battle as well. While some cities get a bum wrap when it comes to crime, other cities like San Francisco, Bakersfield and San Diego don't get the national coverage but statistics show that crime is an equally serious problem.  When the chips are down, whether you live in Santa Ana, Long Beach, or a small city outside Sacramento, your security system might save your life some day and you need to know what to do so you are ready when that moment comes.
